BOIS Rig MkIV Setup Ideas

The BOIS Rig MKIV - Split Specialty for the BOIS?

To answer our four-season requirements of effecitvely using split rigs, we introduced the BOIS MKIV Rig. Taking design influence from the BOIS MKIII Rig, the MKIV set out to adapt to a more specified mission mindset than that of the the BOIS MKIII: Split Specialty. Being smaller in size, and more modular than its hard-sewn older brother, the MKIV still grants the user Shepherd's caliber-swapping modularity, as well as center-MOLLE fields to allow user customization of additional gear for the second line.

With those two key directives in mind, the BOIS MKIV Rig was conceptualized around the universal use of the A42 Large design paired with MOLLE modularity; placing the most commonly-used items front and center. This central MOLLE, designed to be used with our Small 42-series GP pouches (A42, C42, or M42), can be outfitted to meet a wide breadth of mission sets. Being used as a long-range patrol rig by some end-users close to Shepherd, the BOIS MKIV design has proven itself to be a comfortable solution for your second line.

Enter, the BOIS MKIV Rig.

Understanding the use case for Split Rigs

Simply put, split chest rigs are designed to house ammunition for primary weapon platforms, frequently used mission-critical equipment, water sources, first aid items, and administrative items. Split rigs accomplish all this while being able to better ventilate, and lay prone while leaving your second line more accessible. If you find that your mission mindset may lead you to being prone for longer periods of time, consider a split rig.

Primary Objectives for the MKIV Rig:

  • Allow caliber-swapping capabilities for users
  • User-configurable modularity for changing mission set
  • Split-center rig allows ventilation, easier access to gear when prone, and quicker don/doff times.

Q: Why go with a BOIS MKIV compared to other split-rig options on the market?
A: Considering that split rigs are in no way new to the second-line conversation, the MKIV is a healthy blend of hardsewn components and end-user modularity. The main compartments are exactly that of the A42 Large, allowing the user a generous amount of volume for general purpose space- while simoutaneously including Shepherd's caliber-swapping capability right out of the box. Center-stitched MOLLE gives the user the ability to tailor their rig to their mission set. Compared to center zippers, multiple buckles, or tubes, our choice of the Duraflex TakTic buckle is a one-motion separation allowing lightning-fast don/doff procedures while being field-repairable.
